“Go!!!! God!!!!”
Written by Mike Shreve, Chaplain for Texas Hospice
I recently spoke with one of our caregivers that I have been extremely concerned about. She is in her late seventies and is taking care of her mother who is in her nineties and under our services, but she also has the added responsibility for the care of her husband that is a recent amputee. Under all the stress and turmoil that her life is under she displays one of the most beautiful smiles.
I asked her how she was managing her situation and she conveyed that she was making it only by the grace of God. She shared with me that when she feels down she is reminded of an old “Ziggy” cartoon in which he’s on a mountain top watching the sunrise yelling “Go!!!! God!!!!” She said that it reminds her that only God can sustain her through the trials and tribulations that she’s facing.
James 1:2 “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,” It’s a wonderful thing to see people come to the point in their relationship with God that they realize that God wants us to be fully dependent on Him. We should “consider it all joy,” because through the trials we come to understand the depth of His love for us, and we can embrace the sovereignty and grace under trials that all too often escapes our awareness when times are good.
