Texas Hospice Blog Bookends

I wanted to follow-up on three previous blog entries.

1. A week ago a pateint who had been on a ventilator for six weeks and was ready “pull the plug.”  He died peacefully 20 minutes after we extubated him.  During my visit with him before he died he communicated to me that he was ready to go, and that he knew where he was going.  There is tremendous peace available to those who know God.

2. A nurse looking for a job read my blog entry on the difficulty in finding hospice nurses.  I read her email and she sounds fantastic so far.  We are looking forward to visiting with her this week.

3. The hospice patient with the ear mass didn’t do so well after surgery.  He is now home on our hospice service but no longer wants to eat.  Although he is comfortable, some family member are in denial that he is dying.
