What is Hospice? |
The Texas Hospice Difference |
|
Hospice is an area of health care that focuses on controlling pain and relieving symptoms for people who are in the later stages of illness. The emphasis is on comfort, dignity and peace for these individuals. Hospice care is used when a person has a life-limiting illness to provide pain control and comfort wherever the patient is living – whether that be at home, in an assisted living facility, a skilled nursing facility, a nursing home or an Alzheimer’s care facility.
Once a patient chooses hospice, Medicare - or sometimes private insurance - will cover all the costs associated with the person’s care. There will never be out-of-pocket expenses for hospice-directed care - things like medication, medical equipment, or visits by physicians or nurses. If a person regains health and is no longer in need of hospice-level care, Texas Hospice will remove hospice care. Texas Hospice will always be available in the future if hospice care becomes necessary again. Texas Hospice provides care to Fort Worth hospice patients as well as patients in the surrounding areas. Dr. Brian Byrd, a Fort Worth family practice physician, founded Texas Hospice in 2007 with a commitment to bringing the highest level of excellence, integrity and compassion to end-of-life care to Fort Worth hospice patients.
Texas Hospice provides something many hospice providers do not: a physician will visit each patient wherever they are living. Along with an exceptional team of nurses and other associate medical directors, Dr. Byrd designs a plan of care for each patient that is tailored to meet their specific, individual needs. Dr. Byrd and his staff understand that choosing hospice care is not an easy decision. For that reason, Texas Hospice offers emotional and spiritual support to family members as well as patients through a social worker or chaplain. If you think hospice care may be appropriate for your situation, please call one of our Hospice Consultants at 817-263-8808 or toll free at 1-866-770-7773. A consultant can meet with you in your home, office or wherever you choose to explain in detail the services we offer. |
